The apple, from the old English æppel, is the fruit of the apple tree. The apple tree originated in Central Asia, and the evolution of botanical apple trees can be traced back the Neolithic period.

Nominally, there are around 2000 varieties of the species present in Italy, although a more precise figure is hard to pin down given the historical overlap of the various cultivar names, and extinct or untraceable species.

Gala Cultivar
Gala apples feature an overall red/orange colour, with vertical streaking. They are sweet and aromatic. Within the Gala cultivar group, there are two types of colouring: streaked and uniform.
The streaked varieties of this apple tend to favour higher altitudes (> 400 MASL), while uniform clones prefer the plains, which traditionally lend themselves less to strong colouring. The clones managed by our company are:

Fuji Cultivar
The Fuji apple is undoubtedly one of the most attractive varieties of modern apple. Its main feature is its skin, with pink dots and streaks on a yellow-green background. It is also crisp and juicy, with an opaque white flesh. The flavour is predominantly sweet and very refreshing.
The clones managed by our company are:

  • Aztec Zhen
  • Fubrax Kiku

Braeburn Cultivar
The Braeburn is an apple cultivar that is firm to the touch with red/orange vertical streaks on a yellow/green background. The intensity of its colour depends on the conditions in which it is cultivated, altitude in particular. The flavour of these apples is both sweet and tart.
